The metal and wood structure straddles the Río Cauca and links Olaya with Santa Fé de Antioquia. A feat of 19C civil engineering, it was one of the world's first suspension bridges and was designed by Colombian architect José María Villa (1850-1913). It took 8 years (1887-95) to complete the bridge, which has two turrets at each end. The bridge is 291m long and is only open to light traffic now. Its head-spinning, oscillating effect is best appreciated on foot.
