Home to around a hundred permanent residents, the island is easy to access year round. Having been a meeting place for sailors in the 18C, nowadays it is a hub for sailing enthusiasts and home to the Royal Swedish Yacht Club, which organises the famous Gotland Runt, an offshore race in the Baltic in early July (250 boats competing over 360 nautical miles).
