An extinct volcano straddling the Argentine-Chilean border, Cerro Tronador (3 478m) is the highest and by far the most impressive of the peaks standing to the south of Bariloche. The deafening spectacle of huge blocks of ice breaking away from the seven glaciers has earned it the name of Tronador... after rumbling thunder. Numerous footpaths run through the territory, each offering nature lovers an opportunity to enjoy superb panoramic views.
