Museu Afro-Brasileiro in Salvador
De Groene Gids
De beoordeling van de Michelin Gids
The Afro-Brazilian Museum is dedicated to African culture in Brazil, which is particularly profuse in the State of Bahia. Between the 16C and 19C, some five million Africans were taken to Brazil, most of them Bantu from Angola, the Congo and Mozambique, and Yoruba from the Gulf of Guinea (Kingdom of Dahomey) and Nigeria. Certain rooms are dedicated to the history of the candomblé; you can see the 27 cedar panels by the Argentinian artist Carybé (1911-1997), Bahian by adoption, depicting the orixás.
