In 1907, Sir William Macdonald (1831-1917), founder of the Macdonald Tobacco Company and Chancellor of McGill University, donated 650ha/1,606 acres to the university. The redbrick buildings erected on the land are today the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. The campus is home to the Morgan arboretum, a forest reserve, which boasts Canada's most comprehensive collection of endemic trees and to the Zoo Ecomuseum which studies amphibians and reptiles.
