An international landmark since Anita Ekberg bathed in it wearing an evening dress in the film La Dolce Vita, the monumental Trevi Fountain is a masterpiece commissioned by Pope Clement XII, designed by Nicola Salvi and completed by Giuseppe Pannini in 1762. The fountain, which resembles a triumphal arch, has the same dimensions as the palace against which it is built. Busy throughout the day, the fountain is popular with tourists who flock here to throw their coins into the fountain, thus guaranteeing that they will return to Rome one day.
