This narrow-gauge railway was laid in 1875 and its 11.3km were designed to carry iron ore and granite. The line runs past waterfalls and heads down the Esk Valley, through peatland and woods to arrive in Ravenglass where you can admire the seabirds that assemble on the estuary. The little station museum is devoted to the history of the railway and mines in the region.
