This impressive adobe church is probably the most painted and photographed of New Mexico, inspiring Georgia O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams among others. The church, built between 1710 and 1755, boasts a remarkable east wall and huge rounded buttresses, in addition to lovely painted wood altarpieces. The Spanish decided to make their homes here rather than at Taos, when they returned from exile after the 1680 rebellion.
