This imposing sandstone mesa dominating the valley from its 196ft height is worth a visit to admire the human inscriptions added to its rocks over the centuries: native American petroglyphs dating from 1000 to 1400, as well as that of the first Spanish governor of New Mexico, Don Juan de Oñate, in 1605. A pleasant footpath skirts the base of the mesa, leading to the native Indian ruins on top of it (2mi loop; 1hr 30min).
