Created in 1663 by Monseigneur de Laval to train priests for the young colony, the Séminaire de Québec led to the founding of Laval university, the first francophone institute of higher learning in Canada, in 1852. The Vieux-Séminaire comprises three sections arranged around an inner courtyard. Note the sundial on the facade of the Procure Wing, completed in 1681. The Monseigneur Olivier Briand chapel is noteworthy for its fine wooden panelling, while the Congregational Chapel houses a gilded wood statue carved by Thomas Baillairgé.
