This convent is home to the Christ of Miracles (Cristo dos Milagres) who draws crowds for the feast of Santo Cristo (5th Sunday after Easter). Many emigrants return on this occasion. This statue is said to have been given in the 16th century by Pope Paul III to nuns who had come to Rome to ask for a bull establishing their convent near Ponta Delgada.
