On the banks of the river, Phnom Penh Royal Palace was built in the 1860s when the royal court moved from the old capital of Oudong to the new one of Phnom Penh. Built on the same model as that of Bangkok, it forms a complex of gardens, palaces and pagodas, whose gilded roofs bristle with slender arrows, typical of Khmer art, with the Throne room, Khemarin Palace (the king's residence, closed to the public), Chan Chaya and Napoleon III pavilions and the famous Silver Pagoda...
