The Phra Phuttha Chinarat is without doubt the most venerated statue in Thailand after the Emerald Buddha at the Wat Phra Kaeo in Bangkok, and the most copied in the country. This seated Buddha, made from gilded bronze and with features that highlight the extraordinary finesse so characteristic of Sukothai art, was, in the eyes of King Li Thai, who ordered its construction, to be the most beautiful statue in the kingdom. It is housed in the wihan of the Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahatat, the only temple in the town to have survived the fire of 1960.
