The estate of Scone Palace encompasses Moot Hill, one of Scotland's most hallowed historical sites since Pict times. Kenneth MacAlpine made it the centre of his new Picto-Scottish kingdom in the middle of the 9C and a counterpart of the ecclesiastical centre of Dunkeld. From this time, Scottish kings were crowned on the Stone of Destiny, otherwise known as the Stone of Scone. The neo-Gothic palace you see today houses a superb collection of French furniture, ivory and porcelain.
