This square was bordered by a portico which housed 78 offices representing artisans and merchants: the emblems representing the different trades are depicted in the mosaics around the pavement. In the centre of the square stand the remains of a temple believed to be dedicated to Ceres, goddess of agriculture, the harvest and fertility.
