Built in the 14C on the highest bluff of the region, Ogrodzieniec Castle was entirely reworked in the 16C in the Renaissance fashion by a banker of King Sigismond I. It was destroyed by the Swedes in the 17C and partially rebuilt before being definitively abandoned around 1810. Its spectacular ruins paint an imposing if crumbling picture of crenelated towers and ramparts amid an eminently scenic landscape.
