Yakushi-do Temple at Tosho-gu
De Groene Gids
De beoordeling van de Michelin Gids
At the end of the first courtyard, after the Rinzo (holy library), you come to Yakushi-do. This Buddhist temple was allowed to remain in this Shinto enclosure despite the separation of religions imposed by the Meiji reform. Destroyed by a fire, it was rebuilt in the 1960s in adherence with the same acoustic reality that makes the Nakiryu, the famous dragon painted on the ceiling, roar when you clap your hands. The original dragon, by Kano Eishin Yasunobu (1616-85), was restored by Katayama Nanpu.
