The location of the Cahuachi ruins, not far from the Nazca Lines, together with the size and nature of the edifices found, have led historians to think that this site was probably a major religious centre, a sort of Pre-Incan Vatican, which at its apex, probably housed thousands of priests. Numerous mounds, squares, remains of pyramids and adobe structures have been excavated, but the site is still full of hidden treasures, among which some 34 to 38 pyramids, still buried in the sand.
