Near the hamlet of Nagata lies a long white-sand beach, where it's difficult to resist the temptation to go for a dip. It is also one of the few sites in the world where the endangered loggerhead sea turtle lays its eggs. From May to August, almost 500 turtles come during the night to nest on this beach, where they themselves were born ten or 20 years earlier. Among the young turtles that hatch, only a tiny minority manages to escape from predators. The small Umigame-kan museum in Nagata provides information about the turtles.
