South of Moncton, where the Petitcodiac River flows into Shepody Bay, Hopewell Cape is famous for its red conglomerate cliffs out of which erosion has separated off picturesque rock formations, some topped with spruces, and a few balsam fir trees. At high tide, these rocks form small islands and when the sea withdraws you can see the strange effect of their bases having been worn away by the water. A striking sight in the morning light, but caution should be exercised.
