On the easternmost tip of the Shimane peninsula, this lighthouse offers a breath-taking view over the Sea of Japan, Mount Daisen and in good weather, the Oki Islands. The stone structure built in 1898 and measuring over 70m/230ft high, surveys the wooded cliffs of the Cape of Jizo. At the foot of the tower, a small café is now housed in what used to be the lighthouse keepers' home. A lovely trail (90min) links Mihonoseki harbour to the flower-decked Gohonmatsu park.
