Managed by the US Forest Service for multiple uses, this rolling juniper-and-sagebrush steppe sprawls across 112,000 acres south and east of Madras and provides habitat for deer, pronghorn and other upland game animals. The best observation point is at the Rimrock Springs Wildlife Management Area on US-26, 10mi south of Madras. A 1.5mi trail leads to a pair of viewing decks on a wetland dotted with ponds and springs and continues around a hilltop for views of the Cascade Mountains. Trails & viewing decks open year-round.
