Arankele Monastery
De Groene Gids
De beoordeling van de Michelin Gids
A Buddhist monastery established in the heart of the Arankele forest, after which it is named in the 6C. The immense ruins give an idea of the scope of the community of monks who lived here in almost utter destitution. The forest monks, vanavasin, live entirely cut off from modern civilisation according to strict precepts founded on contemplation. A paved drive shaded by tall trees is known as the path of meditation.
