This famous seafront boulevard runs along the bay for 8km from Castillo San Salvador de la Punta to Miramar. Once a prestigious promenade lined with fine mansions and smart houses facing the Atlantic, the Malecón (sea wall) today paints a completely different picture with its shabby façades and crumbling buildings. It remains, however, a popular place for a stroll and when there's a heavy swell the huge waves crashing against the wall form a hypnotic spectacle.
