This handsome group of early 20C brick warehouses is characteristic of architecture during the modernisation period of the Meiji era. They were used to store hay, soya sauce and other precious produce belonging to the Wakana family who had them built. One of the buildings is open to the public and exhibits objects from daily life. The glazed bricks, that can withstand extreme cold, were manufactured in a nearby factory.
