At the centre of a huge roundabout stands this memorial supported by sixteen Rhodesian sandstone columns, the work of Herbert Baker commemorating those who died during the 1899 Siege of Kimberley. A powerful symbol of British victory over the Boers, it contrasts with the Concentration Camp Memorial on Hertzog Square, a poorly maintained slab remembering the Afrikaner families interned by the British.
