On the peninsula of Higashi-Matsuura, Yobuko is the number one fishing port for calamari, whose sales far outnumber those of squid, octopus and sea urchin. After being dried on strange turnstiles, the calamari is sold in batches strung together by wire. The neighbouring restaurants serve live calamari, chopped into fine slices.
