Built in 1240 by the vizier Emir Celaleddin Karatay, this little-visited caravanserai is delightful. Although it was fully restored in the 1960s, the building receives few visitors and as a result has a peaceful, dream-like atmosphere. As at Sultan Hani, the portal is framed by superb, finely carved turrets which echo the stalactite-style decor of the pediment. Before moving on, it's worth stopping for a quick look at the village of Karatay, which also seems to have changed little over the centuries.
