This splendid canyon carved out of the limestone reaches depths of 50m, while spanning widths of less than 3m in some places. A paved trail and several bridges skirt its edges, offering views of the waterfalls along the Maligne river and the giant natural bowls created by whirlpools in the rock. Three species of bird nest in the inhospitable limestone rock faces of the gorge: the American dipper, the American black swift and the great raven.
