The southern coast of the island of Hvar produces the best red wines of Croatia. Its vineyards extend at the foot of the rocky ridge around the villages of Zavala (reputed for its white wines) and Ivan Dolac (almost inaccessible vineyards, built on a steep mountain flank and among the best in the country). Further on you will reach the site of Sveta Nedjelja, nestling at the foot of the island's highest peak and which was home to a small Augustine monastery during the Renaissance. Its ruins offer a superb view of the surrounding vineyards.
