A giant granite falcon wearing the royal pschent presides at the entrance to this temple, which was begun under Ptolemy III and is exceptionally well preserved. Horus, the sun god, son of Re, is omnipresent in Edfu, in particular in the remarkable reliefs of the first hypostyle hall and in the ambulatory. The reliefs in the courtyard depict the Feast of the Beautiful Meeting: grand feasts in honour of Horus were held annually in Edfu.
