Amenemhat II of the XII Dynasty (Middle Kingdom) was the son of Sesostris I and, after Snefru, the first pharaoh to elect Dashur as his burial place. His pyramid is relatively modest in size (50m sides; height unknown) and owes its nickname of White Pyramid to the light limestone out of which it is constructed. Jewellery and parures belonging to the Pharaoh's daughters were found here.
