The name of the street recalls the salt trade, a traditional activity in Cognac. Built in Renaissance style, it is very wide for its time and has retained its irregular paving and 16C and 17C town houses. Note in particular the Hôtel Perrin de Boussac, a Renaissance mansion, and at n° 15 the very beautiful Baroque façade of the Hôtel Brunet du Bocage.
