From Black Hawk to Estes Park, the lovely Peak to Peak Highway meanders through pine forests for nearly 90km/55mi, offering the occasional glimpse of striking mountain views. Route 119 turns east, towards Boulder, level with the small town of Nederland, an old mining equipment town. Then continue north on Route 72 and after about 22km/13mi, turn left towards Brainard Lake, nestled in the snowy hollows of the Indian Peaks Wilderness.
