Benburb Castle
De Groene Gids
De beoordeling van de Michelin Gids
The remains of the castle are set on a tortured site. The castle, built by Sir Richard Wingfield in 1611, replaced an earlier O'Neill fortress. The entrance is guarded by two rectangular towers containing rooms with fireplaces. The walls have musket loop-holes and form an irregular rectangular shape with a 19C house in the centre. The round tower, overlooking the river, has a staircase leading to a postern.
