Macgillycuddy's Reeks mountain range is the location of Carrantuohill, the country's highest peak at 1,038m. The steep slope strewn in boulders and humid peaty soil will soon however convince you that the climb is far from a "doddle", even if the panorama at the top is ample reward. Experienced hikers only should attempt the climb (6hr return), kitted out with proper footwear, water and food; not recommended after heavy rain or during misty weather.
