Running southeast to northwest for approximately 40mi, the Wallowa Mountains create an imposing line of snow-covered granite summits rising through a dense blanket of forest. Elevations range from near 10,000ft on the high peaks to around 5,000ft in valley bottoms. The core of the range is included in 359,000-acre Eagle Cap Wilderness, the largest designated wilderness in Oregon.
