Fort Anne, one of the most fought over forts of the country, was besieged 14 times during the Anglo-French wars. One of the bastions is home to a stone powder magazine dating from the French period. The high chimney stacks and dormer windows belong to the officers' quarters, built in 1797 by order of Prince Edward, now a museum devoted to the site's military history. The earthen ramparts, built by the French from 1702 to 1708 with later alterations by the British, command a view of the Annapolis Basin.
