The feudal ruins of the Château d'Alleuze, an immense keep flanked by four round 13C towers, rise above a barren rocky hillock, towering nearly 30m over the reservoir behind the Grandval dam, to the south. There are few more romantic places in the Auvergne than this picturesque spot, tucked away in a wooded valley. The D40, to the west of Barry, has stunning views of the château and the ruins.
