Washington state is crossed from north to south by the Cascades Range, home to several volcanoes, such as Mount Rainier (4392m/14409ft) and Mount St Helens (2549m/8362ft), which still bears the scars of the 1980 eruption. It is home to a genuine patchwork of National Parks that feature thousands of hiking trails meandering across volcanoes, prairies and forests, taking you to the very best points of view. Don't miss Winthrop, a town that exemplifies the Far West.
