In the large bay, Faxaflói, Hallmundarhraun is one of the most spectacular lava fields in the country. It can be reached by a dusty, bumpy road accessible with any type of vehicle, although a 4x4 is still preferable. It also has several attractions: the caves Stefanshellir and Surtshellir are open to everyone, and the latter can be visited with a flashlight. Further away, you can stops almost anywhere to contemplate the glacier Eiriksjökull.
