Thanks to its long strip of sand, this bay's beach is the star of the region, all the more so because it offers safe swimming, which is not the case along the beaches further south. Traces of a village dated to circa 1200 BC were discovered on the peninsula that borders the bay to the north (Palaiokastro). It was founded by the first Mycenaean settlers fleeing Greece, which had been ravaged by invasions. The defensive wall is clearly visible; a bold modern construction houses a small exhibition on Mycenaean migrations.
