Although all the staff members of this splendid historic restaurant on the village square hail from Sicily, they have been working in Switzerland for years. Distinctive, purebred Sicilian fare, packed in the island’s big-boned flavours, is savvily paired with regional produce. Meals are served in a warm, rustic setting that also provides the backdrop to regular musical events, while the score slaloms between textbook family favourites, such as spaghetti with seafood, and regional recipes, of the likes of polenta-based dishes in a tribute to Ticino. The lavish helpings reflect the establishment’s hospitable mindset. Among the culinary highlights, we particularly fell in love with the sarde a Beccafico (sardines stuffed with breadcrumbs, raisins, pine nuts and orange peel). There’s also a pleasantly cool and tranquil alfresco area for summer dining, plus four well-appointed guestrooms upstairs.
