Vivanda hits all the right notes: as well as its views of the national park and the garden, it boasts a chic interior comprising modern design and warm wood. Indeed, the Cadonau family has its own joinery – hence the hotel's name: "IN LAIN", which means "made of wood". The affinity for the region makes itself felt both in the decor and the cuisine, which is based on local produce and presented in the form of a modern eight-course surprise menu. Chef-patron Dario Cadonau works with dedication and his own distinctive style to marry the flavours of excellent ingredients. The extensive cheese selection is wonderful, and the wine list includes around 700 labels. A particular highlight is the Veuve Clicquot champagne cellar, the only one of its kind in Switzerland. For an exceptional experience, guests can book the Chef’s Table in the heritage vaulted room overlooking the wine cellar and kitchen. In summer, the bright, modern annexe with its terrace provides the setting; in winter, the scene shifts to the centuries-old Engadin house, with natural stone walls, heavy wooden beams and antique floorboards.
