This scenic road comprising three viali named after Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli, was built from 1865 to 1870. Lined with luxurious mansions, it winds its way along the hillside between rows of pine and cypress trees. It eventually reaches the huge esplanade of Piazzale Michelangelo, which offers fine views of the city and is home to a monument erected in 1875 to Michelangelo. The road climbs up to the church of San Miniato al Monte, standing on the hillside overlooking Florence.
