Saragossa, capital of Aragon, has a history marked by two heroic and bloody sieges (1808-1809), supported against Napoleon's troops. Most of the town was rebuilt in the 19C, after damage incurred during the War of Independence. It does not have very original buildings but is a pleasingly lively town. This major university town lies in the Èbre basin, at the confluence of three rivers, and is also a religious capital.
