Entirely rebuilt after its destruction in a tornado in 1941, Santander is one of the most elegant seaside resorts on the Cantabrian coast and an important port to boot. Built north of a wide bay, closed by the narrow peninsula of La Magdalena and the sand bank of Somo, it is also famous for its international summer university and music and dance festival.
